ETX Capital Review

July 23, 2015

ETX Capital are based in London, England. Due to their location they are registered and regulated by the FCA. ETX Capital are a CFD and Spread Betting provider with a strong and growing clientele, especially in the UK and Europe. From recent interviews with ETX Capital's CEO, ETX are looking to expand globally with the potential to enter Asia.

The Platform

As with most retail brokers, ETX capital offers MetaTrader and their own bespoke trading platforms. Their own trading platform offers quick order execution and the platform is very user friendly. Charts can take a little while to load but compared to other brokers who offer similar platforms (similar layout and range of instruments) the platform does perform slightly better.

ETX Capital offer a charting package with a variety of time-frames and indicators. The charts are simple to use and are great for someone new to trading. The downfall to ETX Capital's charts is that they are inaccurate... Disturbingly inaccurate. The errors on their historical chart data frustrated me so much that I eventually closed my account with them and transferred my trading funds elsewhere. To see my video about ETX Capital and the errors I found with their price charts please click here.

Spreads & Instruments

The broker offers Forex, commodities, equities, indices, and treasuries all from the one platform, which is great for traders who wish to trade a range of markets. Unfortunately ETX Capital's variable spreads are not competitive. It's true that some of their products offer very tight spreads, such as the FTSE and DAX but overall spreads are poor. The majority of currency pairs have a 5 pip spread minimum. Some are more competitive (EUR/USD 1.2-1.6 pips, USD/CHF 1.2-1.6 pips, GBP/USD 2.0-2.8 pips) but even spreads are not great, other brokers offer much tighter spreads.

Summary

There are some advantages to using ETX Capital but sadly my relationship with them was short lived. Due to their poor charting software and some major technical issues I decided to close my account. If you are a day trader and solely trade the EUR/USD, FTSE or DAX then ETX Capital and their platforms might be right for you. If however you trade a range of instruments and hold overnight positions, then I would suggest looking elsewhere.
